| PASDA Data Pressed on CD-ROM
The Pennsylvania Spatial Data Access System (PASDA)
is Pennsylvania's official geospatial information clearing-house. PASDA files can be
pressed on CD-ROM.
Statistical and Thematic Mapping
Statistical mapping facilitates data analysis by displaying information in a spatial
format. It also assists in conveying information to an audience. Any data item from the
1990 census or user-supplied data can be placed into its coordinating geographic
boundaries, whether they are state level, counties, school districts, zip codes or census
tracts or blocks.
TIGER Files
TIGER (Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing) Line files are
extracts of the Census Bureau's TIGER system, a national computer-readable map database.
Files are available on both tape and compact disc. The files are not maps themselves but
contain digital data describing features. By importing the data into special software, a
detailed map can be generated, and they can be used as part of a geographic information
system.
LandView
LandView is a desktop mapping software that allows users to create maps using
information in TIGER files. In addition to displaying features found on Census Bureau
geographic maps, LandView also enables users to display selected census demographic and
housing data from the Census for block groups. It assists users in locating street
intersections or address ranges on the map by simply typing in a desired address.
To maximize performance the recommended configuration for LandView is:
PC with 586 or Pentium-class processor, or Macintosh with PowerPC processor,
16 MB RAM
SVGA color display
4x CD/ROM drive
Windows 95 or Windows NT (for PC), System 7.1.2 or higher (for Macintosh)
