Pennsylvania
School Districts, 1990: Socio-Economic Characteristics
Policies and programs to benefit school children must take into account
the range and variety of community characteristics across the state. Pennsylvania's
students, parents, educators, employers and elected officials need to have information on
the characteristics of school districts in the Commonwealth. These publications include
demographic, social, economic and housing data for each of Pennsylvania's 501 school
districts in two reports. Volume I provides information on the race and age of the
population, household income, number of persons below poverty, language spoken at home,
educational attainment, and number of housing units. Volume II focuses on children.
Tables include number of children by race, gender, and age groups, language spoken at
home, place of birth, place of residence in 1985, work force status of parents, enrollment
by private and public schools and "at-risk indicators." Both volumes include a
listing of school districts and county.
